By now you have probably heard the latest internet “sensation,” Rebecca Black’s song “Friday.” If you are not familiar with the song, earlier in the month, 13 year-old Rebecca Black paid Los Angeles vanity label Ark Music Factory $2000 for a package of two pre-written songs and half the cost of producing a music video for the song she chose to record. Black picked a song named “Friday” because “‘Friday’ is about hanging out with friends, having fun. I felt like it was my personality in that song,” she says.

“Friday” features simplistic lyrics such as “Gotta have my bowl, gotta have cereal / Seein’ everything, the time is goin.’” After going viral on Youtube on “311 Day” (props if you get that reference), Black has been lambasted on sites such as Tumblr, Twitter, and of course the afformentioned Youtube for her lyrics and heavy use of that God-awful auto-tune. “Friday” is now being considered “the worst song ever made.”

I downloaded the song to understand what everyone was complaining about, and although it’s not the worst song ever recorded, it is pretty bad. But you gotta cut the 13 year-old some slack. The song was part of a vanity package to build up a record career that usually never takes off. You know those kiosks in your local mall that offer a modeling package or are part of an acting agency? It’s like that. Black was having fun and things spiraled out of control.

But why am I kissing jailbait ass? It leads me to this article. In it, former victim of bullying and now pop sensation Lady Gaga defends Rebecca Black, calling her song “genius,” and opening up to Google about her bullied past.

Why do I bring this up?

I dunno. It seemed funny. But the song is catchy. Sue me (I felt like Perez Hilton as I was typing this up).
